What are Chakras?

Chakras are energy centres originating in ancient Indian spiritual traditions, with the seven-chakra system commonly used today running from the Root Chakra at the base of the spine to the Crown Chakra at the top of the head.

Each chakra is traditionally associated with different aspects of our emotional, spiritual and everyday wellbeing. When energy is thought to become blocked or out of balance, the qualities connected with that chakra may feel harder to access.

Crystals are often used as supportive tools in modern chakra practices, chosen for their colour, symbolism and traditional properties.

When your Root chakra opens you feel grounded and secure no matter what is going on around you. You are resilient to life's ups and downs and feel strong and capable.

Questions about Chakra Healing

What are the seven chakras?

The seven main chakras are the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown Chakras.

They are traditionally represented as a series of energy centres running from the base of the spine to the top of the head, with each associated with different qualities, colours and areas of focus.

How do I know which chakra to focus on?

Start with what feels most relevant in your life right now. If you're feeling unsettled, you might be drawn to the grounding qualities of the Root Chakra, while difficulty expressing yourself may lead you towards the Throat Chakra.

The guide above describes how each chakra is traditionally understood when out of balance and when flowing freely to help you choose.

Which crystals are used for chakra healing?

Different crystals are traditionally associated with each chakra, often influenced by their colour and symbolic properties.

For example, earthy and red stones are commonly linked with the Root Chakra, green and pink crystals with the Heart and violet or clear crystals with the Crown.

There isn't one compulsory stone for each chakra, so explore the collections above to find one that resonates with you.

How do I use crystals for chakra healing?

You can hold a crystal during meditation, place it nearby while journalling or practising yoga, carry a tumblestone or worry stone or wear a crystal bracelet as an everyday reminder of your intention.

Chakra work doesn't need to be complicated – choose a crystal and practice that feel comfortable and meaningful to you.

Can I work with more than one chakra at a time?

Yes. While you may choose to concentrate on one chakra, many practices work with several or all seven.

A seven-chakra crystal set can be a simple option if you'd like to work with the system as a whole rather than choosing a single energy centre. Or using a crystal like selenite or clear quartz can help with chakra flow throughout all seven points.
