December has several recognised birthstones, including Turquoise, Tanzanite, Zircon and Lapis Lazuli. Turquoise has been treasured for thousands of years, while Tanzanite is a much more recent discovery found commercially in only one part of Tanzania.
Rock + Realm does not currently stock Lapis Lazuli because much of the world’s supply has historically come from Afghanistan, where the trade has been associated with conflict, illegal extraction and funding for armed groups. Until we can verify a source that meets our ethical standards, we have chosen not to promote it as one of our available December options.
